Password Recovery
If you have lost the
administrative login (user name) or password, or if someone has deliberately or
accidentally placed administrative login or password security on your ACT!
database, we provide a service to reveal the login name and password.
Before your contact us...
Before sending in your database please see Method 1 and Method 2
below to determine if you will be able to gain access to your data without
sending us your database.
Method 1: Guess the login/password
information
If the administrative login or password has been forgotten, try to
guess using these suggestions:
(Note: ACT! will tell you which part of the login is invalid in the error
message that appears.)
For the Login Name try the full or partial name of the administrator of the
database, for example, John Smith, John L. Smith, or J. L. Smith. Also try Chris
Huffman.
For the Password either leave blank, try typing Password, the first or last name
of the database administrator, or try a password that the administrator often
uses.
Method 2: Restore from a backup
CAUTION: Restoring from a backup will overwrite any new data that has
been entered into your database, because of this we do not recommend doing so
unless your backup is current.
Before restoring your backup, make sure to save a copy of your current database
to another folder or disk.
Restoring a backup of your database made before the password was changed
replaces the protected database with the unprotected database. However, you will
lose any new information added since the backup was made.
